People gathered at 4:30 PM on 72nd St. and 5th Avenue. Several people spoke in support of Palestine. After the rally, demonstrators marched in the Bay Ridge area. NYPD officers arrested a young Palestinian man.

Nerdeen Kiswani, founder of Within Our Lifetime said that they chose July 31 because it marks the 6th year anniversary since 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh and his mom, Riham, were firebombed in their home in the occupied West Bank. The father of Ali, Saad, later died of his wounds. Ali’s four-year-old brother Ahmad survived with burns on his body. The terrorist Jewish settler who murdered them was Amiram Ben-Uliel.

Jews of the organization Neturei Karta (nkusa.org) attended the memorial and rally, and marched with Palestinians. Some of their banners read, “Authentic rabbis always opposed Zionism and the state of Israel. www.nkusa.org” and “Torah demands ALL PALESTINE be returned to Palestinian sovereignty. www.nkusa.org”

On their website they say, “Neturei-Karta is the Aramaic term for “Guardians of the City. The name was given to a group of Orthodox Jews in Jerusalem who refused (and still refuse) to recognize the existence or authority of the so-called “State of Israel” and made (and still make) a point of publicly demonstrating their position, the position of the Torah and authentic unadulterated Judaism.

Over the years, a number of Neturei Karta activists and followers settled outside of Palestine. Some of the reasons that these individuals abandoned the country in which they and their families had lived for many generations (having lived there many years prior to the establishment of the illegitimate so-called “State of Israel”) include; ideological refusal to live under the illegitimate heretical “Israeli” regime, their being exiled by the Zionist government for their insistence of remaining independent of the illegitimate heretical regime or them being unable to live a normal family life due to them and their families being persistently harassed, repeatedly incarcerated and many times even physically tortured by the Zionist police and agents. This dispersion resulted in the emergence of various Neturei Karta establishments on the broader international scene. These establishments include synagogues, educational institutions, publishing houses and organizations. The establishments in New York include three synagogues in Brooklyn (Boro Park and Williamsburg), three upstate, and organizations include the Friends of Jerusalem in NY, NY.”

Some of the organizations that joined Within Our Lifetime were Mexicanos Unidos, Jewish Voice for Peace NYC, Decolonize This Place, Existence Is Resistance, American Muslims for Palestine New Jersey chapter, International League of Peoples’ Struggle, New York Boricua Resistance, etc.

“Festival of Life & Struggle, Peace and Resistance”

Within Our Lifetime said in a post on Instagram, “Honor our martyrs, prisoners, and those who gave everything to the struggle. Stand with the Palestinian people. Stand with Palestinian liberation from the river to the sea. Defend Palestine and globalize the intifada.”

In another post on Instagram, Within Our Lifetime said, “Backed by $3.8 bil of US weapons, Israel continues to dispossess and murder Palestinians, including 12-year-old Mohammed al-Alami and 17-year-old Mohammad Tamimi just this week.”

On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, “11-year-old Mohammed Al-Alami was murdered by occupation forces when they opened fire on his father’s car thirteen times and shot him in the chest. Allah Yerhamo,” says Within Our Lifetime.

“Shawkat Awad, 20 Years Old, Beit Ummar. Murdered by occupation forces today, July 29th, (2021), in the West Bank when they opened fire on 11 year old Mohammed Al-Alami, who was shot and killed yesterday. Allah Yerhamo,” says Within Our Lifetime.

“Ibtisam Kaabneh. 28 years old, Aqbat Jabr Camp. Mother and former political prisoner. Murdered on June 12th (2021) at Qalandiya checkpoint in the West Bank when occupation forces shot her, leaving her to bleed to death,” says Within Our Lifetime on Instagram.

Within Our Lifetime says on Instagram, “In a recent @nytimes article Ben & jerry themselves still identified as supporters of “the state of israel” and have made it clear they nor the ice cream company support BDS, and this is not a boycott of israel. By reducing this to the occupation, they’re doubling down on the idea that some Palestinians in certain areas should have some rights, but they don’t believe all Palestinians in all of Palestine should have all rights and liberation. They say that this is not “a rejection of Israel. It is a rejection of Israeli policy…”

Our response is that you cannot have a zionist state without Zionist policies, so the Zionist state in its entirety must be rejected and must be boycotted if they truly believe in Palestinian Liberation. B&Js have a staunch liberal Zionist stance, and it is appalling that some are applauding people for being open and fervent Zionists. This is not hidden, it’s all out there and this is why from the beginning we have been urging people to continue to boycott Ben & Jerry’s and to continue to demand they do better.”

What is BDS?

“Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.

Israel is occupying and colonising Palestinian land, discriminating against Palestinian citizens of Israel and denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes. Inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement, the BDS call urges action to pressure Israel to comply with international law.

BDS is now a vibrant global movement made up of unions, academic associations, churches and grassroots movements across the world. Since its launch in 2005, BDS is having a major impact and is effectively challenging international support for Israeli apartheid and settler-colonialism.”

Boycott Israel. Know what to boycott.

“Targeted consumer boycotts are convincing retailers across the world to stop selling products from companies profiting from Israel’s crimes. Many Israeli exporters complain that it is getting harder for them to export their products.

The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) calls for a boycott of Israeli and international companies that are complicit in violations of Palestinian rights. Virtually all Israeli companies are complicit to some degree in Israel’s system of occupation and apartheid. We focus our boycotts on a small number of companies and products for maximum impact. We focus on companies that play a clear and direct role in Israel’s crimes and where we think we can have an impact.

The BNC is currently encouraging consumer boycotts of the following products and brands: Israeli Fruit and Vegetables, AXA, HP, Puma, SodaStream, Ahava, Sabra and Pillsbury.”

Globalize the Intifada

Within Our Lifetime says on its website wolpalestine.com, “As Palestinians continue to bravely confront ethnic cleansing and genocide, it’s time to globalize the Intifada. This call is rooted in direct action and driven by the belief that all colonized and oppressed people have the right to take back their land, to realize self-determination, and to win their liberation by any means necessary. We build upon the revolutionary spirit and inspiration of Palestinian resistance, in the understanding that our own liberation is either collective or nonexistent, and that it must reflect the interconnectedness of our struggles in our neighborhoods and homelands. That is why we are organizing actions every week as we build towards September 17th, a peak day of action across New York City and beyond.

Globalize the Intifada comes from the urgent need to defend our lands, resist our oppressors, and break free from the genocidal grip of U.S. imperialism and Zionism. Waves of solidarity have swept the world in reaction to the Sheikh Jarrah evictions, the bombardment of Gaza, and the militarist policies of the U.S.-sponsored Zionist regime. These events have united Palestinians across the occupied territories and in exile, and also sparked a new unity against colonial violence in many parts of the world; from Colombia and Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Bangladesh and the Philippines, to the Bronx and Bay Ridge in New York City. As Palestinians from Gaza and Haifa to Al-Quds and Beita have consolidated their resistance to the Zionist settler-colonial project, we too must amplify the spirit of Palestine Liberation in the belly of the beast by linking arms with all those who are confronting U.S. and Israeli aggression globally.

Globalize the Intifada expands the terrain of struggle by creating new points of leverage for our movements based on the interconnectedness of our struggles. Although these struggles arise from our specific place in the world, the forces we are fighting against–the creditor class, the landlords, the cops, the prison industry, the teargas manufacturers, the multinational corporations, the mining companies, and the military defense complex–are all interconnected parts of the same oppressive system. So we can find points of convergence in our separate struggles when we join the dots between what is happening across the street, or ocean, and what we are doing in our own backyard. With each link, and each mobilization, we are building the collective power and relationality needed to effectively confront the tyranny of the settler state.

How can you amplify the message of Globalize the Intifada? Organize an action in your neighborhood along with other communities who support Palestinian liberation and who want to channel the spirit and example of the Palestinian intifada for their own ends. Make it clear that our mutual liberation is interdependent, and identify common targets that have an active hand in the domination of our peoples. To those who participate in, and profit from, the oppression of people here in the U.S. and around the world–your days of comfort are coming to an end. In the coming weeks, the boroughs of this city will become a theater of operations where we can actualize the interconnectedness of our struggles with a diversity of strategies and tactics. Globalize the Intifada will be an ongoing strike at the heart of empire with Palestine as its compass.”
